A government primary school at Mettu Thandalam, a dot of a village situated 3 kms from Thiruporur was in a derelict condition for so many years till Arta foundation, a Pondicherry based NGO decided to give this school a complete makeover.
Arta Foundation has renovated more than 45 schools in and around Tamil Nadu and impacted 1000s of children positively through art in the last 7 years by creating an inspiring environment starting at classrooms. The team that renovated this school consisted of around 20+ youth volunteers, including doctors, engineers, government servants, advocates, students etc. From waking up at 3AM to catch a bus from Pondicherry, reaching Chennai at 6AM, working from 7AM till 6PM, and to resuming work the next day again at 7AM, the volunteers of Arta Foundation are no less than superheroes. As you can see in the pictures, ARTA Foundation has tried to inspire and introduce space right outside the classroom doors.
The idea is to sustain the government school with modern aesthetics & through Building As a Learning Aid Concept.
The children were so happy to see the artworks on Saturday and one of the kids even told that he is so excited and can't wait to come to the school on Monday to witness the output. This is exactly what the volunteers wanted to hear after putting in nearly 36 hours of hard work. Arta Foundation will focus on the aesthetic transformation of underprivileged government schools to the level of a private institute, ensuring that "Free Education" is not disrupted.
Thanks to Ettica Projects Private limited, Chennai for the sponsorship. Thanks to SSN School of Management , SSN College of Engineering for providing the accommodation for our volunteers.
